The second edition has a few new photos (including this one, of Thrill Kill Jill and her husband Tyler Fyre and their expanding family!) as well as updates to performer biographies. Chapter 5- which covers Jill, and performers Charon Henning and Sparkly Devil, has been updated. Still a great read, but as I've uncovered more information since 2009, I really wanted to include that.
Now I need to get 2 ISBN numbers tattooed on me ;)
I'll be doing several speaking events in Wisconsin in the lead-up to the book's release, so please come out!

A very long time ago, in a galaxy far far away called graduate school, I wrote a very fun (for me) paper about Haida and Tlingit women's body modification practices. Thanks to Things and Ink's latest issue, The Modification Issue, I was able to revisit some of this research. The Modification Issue is on sale now, get yourself a copy!
In other news, The Tattooed Lady second edition will be going to print soon with Taylor Trade. I've got all my updates in, tracked down photo permissions, substituted a few images... it's going to be wonderful!
someone, somewhere... has a copy of Katherine E. Fleming's 1999 book The Muslim Bonaparte: Diplomacy and Orientalism in Ali Pasha's Greece for less than $100. (Some copies are $500.) I don't care what kind of condition it's in. Seriously.

The second issue of Things and Ink will soon be out, along with my article about Lady Randolph Churchill's mythical ourobouros tattoo!
For background research on Jennie Churchill's life, one of the sources I consulted was Anne Sebba's book American Jennie: The Remarkable Life of Lady Randolph Churchill. It was a great read, well researched, and very interesting.
I highly recommend it if you want to know more about this interesting lady.

I will be at UW-Madison next Tuesday, Oct. 16th, guest lecturing in a really awesome looking class about material culture, and later that day, giving a talk about tattooed ladies.
The talk will be at 6:00 PM in the Elvehjem Building (800 University Ave, Madison, WI) Room L140, sponsored by the UW-Madison Material Culture Program. Hope to see you there!
